Solar PV panels generate clean, renewable energy from the sun, offering alternative to traditional energy sources. Excess energy that you don’t use is supplied back to your energy provider and you can be compensated for this via the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).

Batteries
Solar batteries compliment your solar PV system allowing you to store the excess power generated throughout the day. This can be then used in the evenings or at any time during the day when your demand is higher. This further minimises your reliance on the grid and is another way of reducing bills further. Batteries can be installed together with the solar panels or retrospectively.

Solar PV contain photovoltaic cells that convert light into DC electricity. This current then flows through an inverter which converts the DC to AC, which can then be used in your home. Modern Solar PV panels also generate on cloudy days.
Most homes in the UK are suitable for solar panel installation. Panels can be installed on east and west facing roofs, albeit they will generate a less than a south facing roof.
The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), is an export tariff, in place for homeowners and businesses to benefit from selling their surplus energy generated from their solar PV systems. This requires registering your system with an energy supplier and the rates vary for across the market.
Following a survey, Capital Energy will use software to calculate on what your proposed system will generate in a year. This output is calculated by factoring system size, orientation, inclination, shading and historic weather data in your area. This can then be used to estimate savings and earnings from the SEG.
Solar PV system become the primary source of providing electricity. However, although a lot less than otherwise, your dependence on the grid remains in place. When the panels are not generating enough or your consumption is greater than what the panels are able to generate, then you will draw the shortfall from the grid as normal. Panels do not eradicate your bills but offer a way of reducing them.
This will depend on a few variable factors such as available roof space, consumption data and efficiency of the panels. Our team will be able to discuss this in detail with you and give you all the viable options.
Domestic installations usually take no more than two days, whilst most are completed within one day.
Solar PV installation are considered “permitted developments” and do not require planning permission unless:
- You reside in a listed building
- You reside in a conservation area (usually OK if the panels are installed at rear roof of the house or another roof/wall that does not front main highway)
- You reside in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Most solar PV panels are guaranteed for 25 years or more so it is safe assume that they last at least that long, with exceptions on faulty panels.
